The Odessa Philharmonic Society, an architectural gem at 15 Bunina Street, was constructed in the late 19th century as part of an international competition to design a new Stock Exchange building, commemorating Odessa’s centenary.
This stunning landmark is a true masterpiece, captivating historians and architects alike with its intricate exterior. Even today, experts debate its exact style, though it masterfully blends Renaissance, Italian Gothic, and Neo-Gothic influences—with the latter ultimately defining its grandeur.
Following a meticulous reconstruction in 1949, the Philharmonic remains a cultural treasure. Locals proudly boast of its exceptional acoustics, thanks to its nail-free Lebanese cedar ceiling, adorned with exquisite gilded paintings and elaborate patterns. The walls feature six breathtaking panels by St. Petersburg artist Karazin, each depicting pivotal moments in human history.
The Odessa Philharmonic Concert Hall is a breathtaking blend of elegance and grandeur. With a seating capacity of 1,050 guests, it ranks among Europe’s finest concert venues. Both Odessans and visitors are captivated by its monumental scale and timeless beauty, drawing them back time and again to experience its magnificent architecture and rich cultural legacy.
